Greetings from Diane Davidson, WebEx's Community meister. I love film and probably I'll use some film analogies from time to time as I offer my thoughts on communities and social media, their impact on business, my life, and the world at large.

Two weeks ago I blogged about the ‘Twitter Mandate’. I closed that blog by mentioning that those who know me well know that I will most likely revisit the topic in a short while and be totally 'sold'.

That statement was truer than I thought.  To my total surprise – both professionally and personally, Twitter has delighted me over the last two weeks.  Professionally, I find it a great way to keep up with social media, what’s going on, studies, lists, and quick observations.  Of course I have my favorites who continually astound me with useful information.

Over the past week, interesting lists included the white label social media vendors  (staggering long list), the 50 top female bloggers  (totally fascinating), and latest Online Community Research report on metrics .  This is such a tiny list compared with what I have found and learned from.  If someone sends me an email with pertinent research or a solid article, I tweet on that.  There’s lots of interesting information on working green and teleworking and that’s a constant theme.

Likewise on the personal front, I not only keep up with my social media cohorts who live in other parts of the country, but I am constantly stumbling on new folks with new ideas.  Today’s favorite was an iced tea recipe from, as she called herself in this tweet, ‘the iced tea mad scientist’ – iced tea, mandarin oranges, and honey.

And since I like consider myself kind of a student of culture and fairly eclectic in my tastes, it’s fun to share my perceptions and observations.  This week I had the pleasure of seeing Peter Frampton at the Mountain Winery and tweeted both on the lovely very successful renovation of that wonderful concert venue as well as the astoundingly wonderful concert.

But this is still true, Twitter is not for everyone.  Large circles of my friends (remember I am 'a certain age') just laugh when I tell them what I do and they will never understand it.  Sometimes, even my 22 year old son thinks I am nuts and he virtually grew up in the digital world.   But for me, I like this particular blend of biz, social, and personal.  Happy tweeting :)

Nice set of posts Diane. I recently did a post on how Twitter is started to be considered part of the new breed of customer relationship management called Social CRM. Here's a link to the post: http://crm2.typepad.com/brents_blog/2008/07/learyb-social-c.html. Oh yeah, I just signed up to follow you on Twitter!

Diane, you're right that Twitter isn't for everyone, but good to know that you've decided it works for you -- at least for now! It's not an exaggeration to say that Twitter has been my No. 1 tool in expanding my personal and professional network over the last 1.5 years. It's brought me business, broken news, helped me to grow my Social Media Breakfast networking event, entertained me, introduced me to new and interesting bloggers, and been my virutal watercooler. That's a whole lot of oomph for 140 characters.
