I finally broke down and purchased an iPhone 3G in order to stay in front of the innovation curve. I must say, this is a disruptive technology! But as a Collaboration and Marketing consultant, I have a responsibility to integrate the tools I have into Cisco / WebEx's overall collaboration architecture. So today, I am going to discuss two iPhone concepts: 1) What makes the iPhone disruptive and 2) How do you integrate your new iPhone 3G into Cisco / WebEx's Collaboration tools.
What makes the iPhone 3G disruptive?
- Widgets; the simple "download" and "install" applets. The number of widgets available via global developers.
- Interface standard; the enforcement of "look and feel" user interface for each application and the simplicity thereof.
- Absence of mechanical buttons; 3 buttons; on/off, volume, and application switching.
- Collaboration tools; AOL IM, Twitter, eMail, GPS apps, camera capture and transmission, calendar integration and synch, contact integration and synch, business applets, music identification, social awareness apps.
- "Swipe" technolgy allows moving from page to page by moving your finger across the screen.
- "Enlarge" technology allows viewing HTML web-based apps by moving two fingers apart from each other.
How can we integrate these tools into Cisco WebEx tools?
- AOL IM interface enables you to use your WebEx Connect username and password. When you are away from Connect, simply turn-on your AOL IM and you will not miss an important business IM.
- As a marketer, you need to leverage Twitter, Blogs, MySpace, and other social networking tools in your marketing campaigns. Have a new idea for your product? Put it on Twitter! Update your Blog when you have the idea, rather than waiting to get back to the office!
- Need to monitor press releases related to one of your projects? Create RSS feeds that send press releases to your iPhone email account.
- See a picture that makes your point? Shoot it with your iPhone and eMail, post on web, or use in your next presentation.
