If you feel that your good-old recycling, hybrid-driving, organic-shopping habits are no longer enough to help save the planet, I recommend going to one of the new Green Clean parties. I bet you can find one in your neighborhood.

This is not your Mom’s Tupperware or Mary Kay party. It is a fabulous, well-planned, and very educational gathering of local women (at least mine was all women…) who all want to be green. For two hours, me and a dozen of my new green best friends mingled at my girlfriend’s house mixing together distilled white vinegar, baking soda and essential oils to create environmentally-friendly, kid-safe, toxin free household cleaners.

I sure learned a lot. And not only that you don’t really need harsh chemicals to clear drains, remove stains or do your laundry. But also the fact that local households are willing to go an extra mile to do their part for the environment. People are willing to host and attend parties, spread the word, learn to mix, pour and scrub to make sure that we are not adding to the global pollution problem.

I found this very inspirational. Maybe big corporations can learn something from our local working Moms – to take the time to change their ways. Even if it takes a little extra effort, even if it’s not the way they have always done things. Every time I hear about a business that likes the idea of WebEx but just hasn’t gotten around to adopting an online collaboration solution to reduce travel, I think of my Green Clean party - with just a little extra push, things can change - one house, one company at a time.

What a great idea! I think I'll combine this with a yard sale and recycle some things in the basement as well.
