Hi all,

Can someone kindly let me know how WebEx Connect can interface with other IM applications?

"Send IMs and see who is online, even if your contacts use other popular IM clients such as other versions of AIM, ICQ, GoogleTalk, Jabber, IBM SameTime,or Live Communication Server. "

Found the above statement and hence needed the supporting information.

Thanks,

Vasudha

Hi Vasudha, I apologize for the delinquent post.

With WebEx Connect you can:
■ Send IMs and see who is online, even if your contacts use other popular
IM clients such as other versions of AIM, ICQ, GoogleTalk, Jabber, IBM
    SameTime, or Live Communication Server.

Use this procedure to send an instant message (IM) to one other person. When you start an IM or chat session, the other person will receive an invitation to join the session. After he or she accepts your invitation, your session begins.

At anytime during an IM or chat session, you can invite additional people
to join in the chat. To start a chat session with two or more people see
'Starting a chat session'.

To send an IM:
1 Start an IM with one person:
    ■ If the person is on your contact list, double-click the name of the
       person  you want to IM.

    ■ If the person is not on your contact list, you can enter his or her
screen name in Quick Contacts. Then double-click the name
       you just added.

For details about Quick Contacts, see Adding entries to Quick
Contacts on page 37 of the User Guide (see link @ bottom of
this thread).  The chat window opens.

2 Enter the message you want to send into the box and click Send.

After digging a little deeper, here's what I told:

WebEx Connect uses the AIM network to federate with other enterprise IM clients, specifically IBM SameTime or Microsoft OCS/LCS. In addition, because WebEx Connect utilizes the AIM network, it can also federate with AOL and ICQ.

WebEx Connect DOES NOT federate with other consumer IM applications including GoogleTalk, Yahoo! Messenger or Microsoft Windows Live Messenger.

Federation means the ability to IM other people who are utilizing other IM networks. For end users, this means that when you add a contact to WebEx Connect and that contact is using Microsoft OCS, you should be able to IM that contact right out of the box. People using other clients (ie, IBM SameTime) will not have the ability to join spaces, etc. - federation applies to IM capabilities only.

A user is able to chat with users in the AIM network. To do so, just add that user's buddy name to the Connect IM window. Other IM clients are not currently supported.
