What makes a good, effective, fun and useful online community? What features and content would make our users come back to the community on a regular basis? We are open to any and all suggestions. Let's start a discussion on how we can make the Collaboration Community YOUR space.

I'd like to see the ability to edit my posts and enable avatars. It's a real problem that I can't edit content when I post. Sometimes I make mistakes... ya know.

It would also be great to upload pics and or offer links to pictures that can be viewed in the posts.

Jeff,

Good ideas. We have been asked about pictures before. You are the first to ask about avatars. Have you checked out the beginnings of the social networking by adding a profile about yourself. You can add a picture there. Editing posts would be terrific (know that from my own many mistakes) and will check on that also.

Diane, yeah.. of course I have a picture. I'm still clueless on how to add my location though. How in the world do I add that info?

Jeff,

Checked out your bio - very cool. I am just certain that I know other folks that work with MathWorks.

OK, yes I know that you cannot add all that other cool stuff in your profile - like location, biz interests, etc. We are working on it. As soon as I know when it will be fully enabled, we'll put it in the announcement and hot topic section. Like I said today, it is a WIP - work in progress.

Say the community want to organize a shared event for the common interest. For instance, I talked about the need for "Clear Talk" in a different thread. I would like to organize an event bsed on that topic but I will not be able to fund this myself, but there are other members in the community who may have the resources to sponser such an event. Is there   way t enable such "sharing" to build better communities and build something more than the sum of its components?

Making the need for "sponsorship" and "hosting" more general, it would be nice to:

1. Provide a way for  hosting Ad supported sessions (at the very least NPR like, "this session is made possible by IterativePath.com")

2. Provide a way for non-profits and for-profits alike to make use of these sonsorshps through an online marketplace. If possible add to this, "gift cards" that some customers could use as giveaways for surveys etc.

3. Provide a way for WebEx's unused cycles to be donated to a pool that is available for "open" meetings. By "open"  i mean like "open source".

These are great ideas that I will discuss with several folks at WebEx and get back to you.  I have already shared your idea of webinars to help folks where English is not their native language to keep people engaged as well as speaking techniques to be understood and we may do that.  Give us a little bit of time but hopefully can get back to you next week.

You might want to check out our new Promo Zone for ideas that may engage other community members in ideas to make money or even non-profit ideas I think.  Check that out.

I may need more information and clarification on the idea above.  I can set you up as a buddy in the social networking section of the community and we can send messages back and forth and arrange for a call if need be.
