Well it finally happened this morning. After 4 plus years I had to cancel a class, and worse yet — I had to cancel at the last moment. What a wonderful way to start the day.

There were "issues" with the server hosting the product I was set to deliver training on, rendering the product unavailable. And since most of the training took place in the live product the slides I had were woefully inadequate to fill-in. So here I sit, utterly embarrassed and ashamed turning my students away as they arrive for class.

But there has to be a lesson here, and I am thinking it's that even with application training you have to have a back-up plan. Though I am entirely at a loss as to how to teach an application in a pinch when you don't have access to the application.

How would you handle it?

Oh no! You are so right about that feeling when you have to turn attendees away. Regarding a back up plan, I just wanted to share a method that we have been using to allow for more hands on during training, but it would also work as a backup to sharing how an application works.

I am talking specifically about training on WebEx, but these simulations you see in the link below could apply to any application. http://wlc.webex.com/docs/try/dev/ilt_sim/mc/en/mc101/mc101.htm

Warm Regards,
Jenny
