We are just starting doing online product presentations. The marketing team would like to follow up with the attendees of each event, but I am concerned that they will feel "spammed" by us and not return. How do you follow up with your users without turning them off?

Absolutely – follow up! Your job is not done when the webinar has ended – it is just beginning! My consulting company sends follow-up email to the participants and even people who registered for the event but did not attend. In addition to the link to the webinar recording, we often include description of our company services. I don’t feel like this is spam. They can view it at their own convenience, and if they enjoyed the webinar, they are more likely to return to your site and look for more.

Our marketing team often sends a follow-up that includes a call to action. Like go the company website and download a product demo or a free white paper. Or even take a survey. Customers often like to participate in surveys if they feel that their opinion is going to help make the product better.

We do two things at the end of a web seminar. On the thank you for attending the seminar page, we usually provide them additional links to other info. We also follow-up with an email to attendees and a different email to those who registered but did not attend. We usually offer the non attendees a recording of the event. We are going to start providing a link from some of our webinars to a discussion forum for post event conversations and dialogue.

I have worked with many WebEx customers who send follow up emails after the Webinar and they usually get the permissions from the attendees to follow up after the Webinar. If you are using Event Center, you can add customized enrollment questions. You can add a question asking "Would you like to be contacted after the Webinar with more information on our products and/or future Webinars?"

This way you don't have to worry if they consider it spam, because they are giving you permissions to do so.
