We are connectting a sound board to our computer then feeding the audio thru Voip into the training room.  We have used a Roland device (low end & cheap) and have had success.  When we use that devise the audio comes thru great.  That sound board is very limited in its features, so we have tried to upgrade to the following brands:  Mackie, Yamaha and Alesis.  We go thru the same setup and configuration process (as the Roland) for each of the other boards.  We are unable to get any of the new boards to push audio thru into the training room.  Only the Roland will work.  It's been very frustrating and does not make sense.

What sound boards or equipment recommendations does Webex suggest for us to uset?  We have Vista machines.

Vista is probably your problem. Driver support for anything out-of-the-ordinary or complex is a struggle at best. VoIP isn't exactly hi-fidelity, why do you need anything better than the built-in sound hardware in the computer, much less the Roland or something better? What are you trying to do that you can't accomplish with either the built-in sound hardware in the computer or the Roland (model number please) device?

We have live seminars, that also get broadcast thru webex, with multiple speakers, multi-media and music, so the sound board allows us to manage the audio in a professional way. We are able to record the audio on our Vista machines, so drivers are not the problem. It's when we get into voip in webex, that it stops working.

No problem, I do some very similar productions, interfacing with PA gear, multimedia, dealing with both VoIP and conference calls and so forth. I do all of my work external to the PC, with a traditional analog audio signal path through my mixers and so on. Only in 'the last mile' do I interface with the PC, again using traditional analog interfaces via bus or PCI rather than USB or Firewire, and I have no trouble producing a professional quality output. The analog interface to the PC is rarely the weak link in such a set of signal paths, except with the integrated audio on some poorly designed laptops.

A quote from a previous thread on USB interfaces:

"Note: [WebEx] tech support replied to me and said that many usb devices aren't recognized and that I should use a headset with the standard type of cables that plug into the microphone and headphone jacks on my computer and that should solve the problem."

If you can get a better recommendation on what USB or Firewire devices would be officially supported, that would be great, please come back and share it with us here. Otherwise, I get the feeling that it is just a bit too early to be able to depend on WebEx support for USB audio in this kind of an application.

We use a Mackie board to take the sound out as a speaker out into the an input on the soundboard then take the output back into the line in. Is the sound board connect via USB?
