07/24/2008 6:00 PM Alert

Is there a document or a page that would give me an idea of which product I should use based on what I want?

I've been using Meeting Center but want to do a little bit more so I tried Event Center only to find that the gains of new functions were counteracted by the loss of other functions.  (I was able to create my own registration questions, but discovered during the webinar that attendees couldn't chat amongst themselves.)

If there was something on any of the many help pages (university.webex.com, myresources.webex.com, howdoi.webex.com, more?) that would let me see a comparison of functions in each of the systems I would appreciate it.

Now I’m thinking of using Training Center because it looks like I can create my own registration questions and allow attendees to chat amongst themselves, but I worry that I’ll be giving up something else instead.

I do enjoy these products and am thankful for the technical information available online but I wish there was something available that would let me know WHY I should use something besides just HOW.  (I’ve seen the information on the main page http://www.webex.com/index.html but that is more geared towards selling me products we’ve already got.)

Can we assume that you have an enterprise site with access to more than one center?

The cross platform features and known issues document should give you a good start on the information you are looking for. It should be at {your_webex_domain}/docs/T26L/pt/mc0800l/en_US/support/xplatform.htm

You can also find it by selecting support under any center then User Guides > Release Notes > Cross Platform Features and Known Issues.

I agree that it would be nice to see something more comprehensive from WebEx that broke things down by feature set, i.e., available panels, available participant permissions, available registration features. Though such a document would be no small task and probably next-to-impossible to maintain.

As it happens I was asked to compile some of this information for a decision maker where I work. SO here as of 30 July 2008, WBS26 are the panels available by center:

Meeting Event Sales Training Support
Participant

Chat

Video

Notes

Polling

PPT Notes

Q&A

Media Viewer

Testing

Breakout

Invite

Annotation

Thanks for your help. This is handy. And the cross platform features are useful too. But I suppose we're always going to go back to trial and error to find how the features work in each center. Thanks again for your help!

Again, all thanks aside, I was working on this anyway. Again as of 30 July 2008, WBS26. Note that items highlighted in yellow are default options, i.e., the privileges attendees will have if you make no changes.

BTW: This is all straight from the User Guides for each center.
